Paint Stallion Colonels Smokingun Reaches $4 Million

First as a performer then as a sire, American Paint Horse Colonels Smokingun has always overachieved. The standout stallion, known to his fans as simply “Gunner,” has clinched another milestone in reining history. The National Reining Horse Association reports that as of September 12, Gunner’s offspring have earned $4,0009,637, pushing him from an NRHA $3 Million Sire to a $4 Million Sire in less than a year.

An APHA World Champion and Superior-event earner, Gunner was also an NRHA Futurity Open Reserve Champion and United States Equestrian Federation Reining Champion before joining the NRHA Hall of Fame in 2003. The sorrel overo earned nearly $175,000 in his performance career.

Gunner offspring often carry the Paint’s eye-catching markings and a propensity for success. Gunner is owned by McQuay Stables of Tioga, Texas, and was bred by Eric Storey of Henagar, Alabama. The 19-year-old stallion is by Colonelsfourfreckle (QH) and out of Katie Gun (QH).
