Youth World Show Roundup: Sweepstakes offers scholarship money and PBRIP sidepot

Youth exhibitors were able to chase their dreams and scholarship dollars in the Youth Hopes & Dreams Barrel Racing Sweepstakes Saturday night at the APHA Youth World Championship Show.  The Paint Barrel Racing Incentive Program, or PBRIP, also offered a sidepot for the sweepstakes, bringing the total cash premiums over $2,000.

“I think it’s awesome that there was that much scholarship money given out,” Kysan Buckner, sweepstakes winner, said.

PBRIP started in 2013 with the goal of rewarding Paint horses registered in the program that excel in barrel racing in non-APHA events. The program expanded to the World Show arena in hopes of attracting more exhibitors.

“This is my first World Show,” Kysan said. “I love the PBRIP program and that this sweepstakes class happened here. It’s been so fun.”

The sweepstakes class was open to both APHA and ApHC exhibitors. Eighteen youth competed for the prizes and the title of Sweepstakes Champion.
