The big five

Paints in the Lone Star State will be running for big money this weekend at the Paint Barrel Racing Incentive Program jackpot at the Big Barrel Blow-Out, taking place March 26 and 27 at Twin Lakes Arena in Fairfield, Texas.

With $5,000 up for grabs in the Paint-exclusive side pot—part of $17,000 in total payout—this race is drawing out the fastest of the flashy; more than 50 Paints have pre-registered for the event, and day-of entries are also accepted. Up-to-date information can be found on the arena’s Facebook page.

PBRIP year-end awards from the 2014 season, including a Hart trailer awarded to PBRIP No. 1 Champion Teresa Watson and Nates Skipster, will also be presented at the event.

Jason Smith, Twin Lakes Arena’s owner and manager, is a lifetime APHA member and Paint enthusiast. His story will also be featured in the upcoming spring issue of Chrome magazine, APHA’s premier member magazine. Join, renew or extend your membership today at join.apha.com.

About APHA

The American Paint Horse Association is the world’s second-largest international equine breed association, registering more than a million horses in 59 nations and territories since it was founded. APHA creates and maintains programs that increase the value of American Paint Horses and enriches members’ experiences with their horses.

About PBRIP

The Paint Barrel Racing Incentive Program made its debut in 2013 and is designed to bridge the gap between APHA and barrel racers who run Paints by making it easier for speed-enthusiasts to be involved in the association without having to attend traditional breed shows. PBRIP brings the breed to APHA members at barrel racing events nationwide by adding money to sidepots specifically for those enrolled in the program.
