Bet On Me

There’s nothing quite like a speedy racehorse galloping down the track toward the finish line, and 2015 was full of big moments in Paint racing. APHA is pleased to honor its top running horses of 2015, including newly crowned world champion racehorses Bull and Painted Turnpike.

The Running Champion awards are presented annually to Paint Horses that demonstrate athleticism on the racetrack. Selection is based on their level of competition, location, races won and earnings. Awards are presented in three age categories for both Regular Registry and Solid Paint-Bred Registry horses, and the winners are selected by the APHA Racing Committee. Canadian/International, Distance and Claiming Champions were also named, along with racing Honor Roll champions.

2015 World Champion Running Horse—Regular Registry

Bull, a 2013 bay tobiano stallion, made himself known in his freshman year on the track, capturing more than $70,600 in eight starts, including three wins, three seconds and two thirds. That included running second in three stakes–the Victoria Ennis Memorial Handicap, in which he logged his highest speed index of 91, as well as the G1 Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Futurity and the G1 Lone Star Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Futurity—and third in the G1 Speedhorse Graham Paint & Appaloosa Futurity.

By Cartel Success (QH) and out of Memories Of Texas, Bull was bred by Bill Price of Thackerville, Oklahoma, and is owned by Buddy Albin of Denton, Texas.

2015 World Champion Running Horse—Solid Paint-Bred

Painted Turnpike grabbed his share of the headlines in 2015, becoming the first horse to sweep the Speedhorse Triple Crown by emerging victorious in all three G1 Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Futurity races in a single year. The 2013 bay solid stallion was hard to beat; in nine starts, he captured eight wins and one second, including five stakes wins and posting a speed index of 92. With earnings of nearly $230,000 in his inaugural racing season, Painted Turnpike finished 2015 as the year’s highest-earning Paint racehorse overall.

By PYC Paint Your Wagon (QH) and out of High Class Turnpike, Painted Turnpike was bred and is owned by Nolan Pevehouse of Webbers Falls, Oklahoma, who was named APHA’s leading racehorse owner and breeder for 2015 as well.
