All five barrel races identified as qualifying events for The American are sanctioned by Better Barrel Races and are PBRIP approved to offer cash payouts for Paints enrolled in the new APHA program

FORT WORTH—The American Paint Horse Association’s (APHA) recently launched Paint Barrel Racing Incentive Program (PBRIP) is off to a bounding start with high praise from the barrel racing community. PBRIP offers side pot money specifically for registered American Paint Horses at established barrel races across the country.

APHA announced the addition of PBRIP Sweepstakes classes with a total of $10,250 added money to the lineup of the upcoming World Championship Show in November.

But the latest announcement may be the biggest to date. All five of the sanctioned Better Barrel Racing (BBR) barrel races recognized as qualifying events for RFD-TV’s “The American” $2 Million Rodeo will also be PBRIP approved with a $500 side pot for Paints. This gives barrel racers with Paint Horses added incentive to get enrolled and get running with Paint pride.

The American’s qualifying barrel races are:

  • Loveland, Colorado: Larimer County Fairgrounds             September 28, 2013
  • Lincoln, Nebraska: Lancaster Event Center                     October 12, 2013
  • Alvarado, Texas: Diamond W Arena                               November 9, 2013
  • Jackson, Mississippi: Kirk Fordice Equine Center            November 23, 2013
  • Buckeye, Arizona: South Buckeye Equestrian Center       January 18, 2014

According to The American’s media kit located online at www.RFDTV.com/TheAmerican, the Top 10 contestants at each of the above named events will be qualified to run in the Semi-Finals for The American. The Top 10 semi-finalists will then advance to The American $2 Million Rodeo on March 2, 2014 to compete against the Top 15 athletes recognized from the PRCA’s National Finals Rodeo. The payout is a phenomenal $100,000 for first place in each event, with $25,000 for second. Should an entry from one of the qualifiers win first place in their event that day in March, they are entitled to an additional $1,000,000.

Getting enrolled in the PBRIP program is quick and easy. You need a registered American Paint Horse, a current APHA membership ($40) and a completed enrollment form with $35 annual fee. Full details, forms and a calendar of upcoming PBRIP approved events is available online at www.pbrip.com or you can call 817-222-6444.
