Twist of Fate

With a speed-bred pedigree and chrome in all the right places, Famous Ta Twist turned some heads when he strolled into the sale arena in Oklahoma City on December 12. When the gavel fell, the 2012 sorrel overo stallion had drawn a bid of $50,000—making him the second high-selling horse at the 2014 Barrel Futurities of America World Championship Barrel Horse Sale.

Famous Ta Twist—registered with AQHA as Famous Twist—epitomizes pedigree power. His sire, Dash Ta Fame (QH), was a stakes winner of more than $290,000 with a speed index of 113; he’s the sire of earners of $31.3 million on the track and around the cloverleaf. His dam, Flit Bars Ida Bay (QH), is unraced herself, but is a ¾ sister to NFR qualifier Scoti Flit Bar (QH); she’s produced four foals, including BFA 3D world champion, Bam Bam Bully (QH).

Consigned by Lana Merrick, the stallion was purchased by Teri K. Harper Dufur of Caddo, Oklahoma. With total sales of $938,500 over 99 head, the sales average (including repurchases) was $9,576.53. Complete results are available at goingbigtime.com.
