By Elizabeth Ennis

APHA is pleased to welcome Steven Hayes as the association’s new senior director of marketing, membership and special events.

Originally from Comanche, Texas, Steven resides in Springtown, Texas. He earned his bachelor’s degree in animal science from Tarleton State University and was previously employed by the National Cutting Horse Association as the director of marketing operations. Prior to that he was with the United States Team Roping Championships as a classification representative.

No stranger to the Western lifestyle, Steven grew up on a cattle ranch where his family raised cow horses. An experienced roper, he went to college on a rodeo scholarship and currently competes in team roping while his wife runs barrels. Steven also has experience as a competitor in cutting, ranch rodeos, bull dogging and other rodeo events.

“I am looking forward to being a part of APHA and getting to work alongside Billy Smith and the rest of the team,” he said. “There are a lot of opportunities for APHA, and I hope to be a part of the growth.”
