Shawne Snow makes it rain in the 2021 PBRIP barrel racing sweepstakes

Shawne Snow & Ava Zonneveld

With a run as smooth as ice, Shawne Snow burned through the barrel pattern on July 3 at the 2021 APHA World Championship Show’s Paint Barrel Racing Incentive Program Sweepstakes, laying claim to the 1D championship with a time of 17.079. Piloted by owner Ava Zonneveld of Berthoud, Colorado, the 2021 sorrel tovero mare by SM Country Snowman and out of Shawne Chick, earned a check worth $2,308.

But with nearly $40,000 up for grabs over 5Ds—including bonuses for futurity and Texas-bred horses—that wasn’t the biggest paycheck of the event, which drew 87 entries. Check Your Bet and Jamie Wilson were second in the 1D and first in the Texas-bred incentive, earning a total of $3,174. Check Your Bet is a 2010 gray tobiano gelding by Dashin Is Easy (QH) and out of Cherokee Autumn, and he is owned by Jamie and Brandon Wilson of Weatherford, Texas. One Slick Darlin, a 2016 black solid mare by Slick By Design (QH) and out of Yes Darlin, earned $3,169 in total payouts. With jockey Ryan Reynolds, the mare clocked a 17.269 for third in the 1D, second in the Texas-bred, and first in the futurity sidepot.
