Platinum Breeders’ Futurity payouts top $317,000 for 2022

Platinum Breeders’ Futurity payouts set new records at the 2022 Halter Million, with total purses worth $317,180. The lineup included 10 Platinum classes this year for weanlings and yearlings shown by non-pro exhibitors.

Platinum Non-Pro Weanling Stallions Breeders’ Futurity: Wing Man & Victoria Summers

“I have no words,” Victoria Summers said leaving the class with a huge grin and Wing Man in tow. The pair earned $13,136 of the total purse that exceeded $50,000.

Wing Man had a tough birth, Victoria shared, and she never expected to have so much success with him so soon. A 2022 sorrel overo colt by The Final Verse and out of Top Shelf Sally (QH), Wing Man was bred by Carolyn Stewart and is owned by Victoria, who is from Boerne, Texas. But the colt loves to show, and his presence simply cannot be ignored.

“He is such a fun colt to show. I just have to stand there and let him do his thing. He is a great, great horse,” Victoria said. “I never thought the futurity season for us would be like this. I have no words. I can’t thank Monty & Anna Horn enough, along with Berto—he’s amazing— and, of course, my dad supporting me and my crazy dreams.”

Platinum Non-Pro Solid Paint-Bred Weanling Stallions & Geldings: KR Touchdown Tommie & Robin Robinett

It was a three-pete for Robin Robinett in the APHA Platinum Breeders’ Futurity, and she left with $30,079 in champions checks from her three Platinum Breeders’ Futurity wins alone!
The horsewoman from Brazil, Indiana, won $12,672 with Thats Just Peachy, $6,736 with Heza Virtue and $10,671 with KR Touchdown Tommie.
“It takes a village. The people behind the scenes, the trainers, the breeders, the mare owners—I have to thank everybody. It’s an honor to be able to do this. I was very fortunate and very blessed,” Robin said.
Thats Just Peachy is a 2022 sorrel solid mare by The Final Verse and out of Be My Intention (QH). She was bred by Carolyn Stewart and is owned by Robin.

Platinum Non-Pro Weanling Mares Breeders’ Futurity: KR Peppermint Patty & Patricia Ellsworth

After an amazing trip to The Breeders Halter Futurity, KR Peppermint Patty and Patricia Ellsworth continued their winning ways at the 2022 APHA/WCHA Halter Million. They won the Platinum Non-Pro Weanling Mares Breeders’ Futurity, cashing in on the champion’s payout of $18,846.
“We’re enjoying the moment because we know how hard it is to get one of these!” Patricia said. “She’s just an amazing filly, and it’s a privilege to show her.”
Nearly $75,000 was paid out to exhibitors in the Platinum Non-Pro Weanling Mares Breeders’ Futurity class alone, with more than $300,000 awarded across 10 Platinum classes this year.
“What an incredible incentive to breed for a Paint Horse,” Patricia said. “It’s a wonderful opportunity. You have to work really hard to get here, but it pays off.”
KR Peppermint Patty is a 2022 sorrel overo mare by Execute and out of Chocolate Kande (QH). Bred by Terry & Anastasia Kull, the mare is owned by Brian Ellsworth of Kendall, Wisconsin.
Platinum Non-Pro Solid Paint-Bred Stallions & Geldings Breeders’ Futurity: Caught N Executed & Warren English Jr.
After seeing the money offered up as part of the Platinum Breeders’ Futurity last year, Warren English Jr. of Sturgis, Michigan, made sure he had some eligible horses in his barn for 2022. Caught N Executed, his 2021 sorrel solid stallion, earned the owner/breeder/exhibitor his second Platinum win of the week, this time in the Platinum Non-Pro Solid Paint-Bred Stallions & Geldings Breeders’ Futurity.
“It’s so much fun coming here. We came last year but missed the Platinum and Gold classes. This year, we made sure to sign up for them,” he said.
“Rerun” netted $5,723 with Warren in the Platinum, adding to money already won throughout the APHA Gold Breeders’ Futurity classes, WCHA Big Money classes and the Breeders’ Halter Futurity.
“That’s a lot of money,” he said. “For us, this stuff is not inexpensive. To be able to come out and show a horse and win that kind of money is really incentive to do it. I suspect you’ll see a lot more people in these classes when they see the money involved!”
Caught N Executed is by Execute and out of Caught Ya Lookn (QH).
Platinum Non-Pro Yearling Stallions Breeders’ Futurity: FG Ring Of Fire & Greg Davis
FG Ring Of Fire and Greg Davis fell into $6,001, winning the Platinum Non-Pro Yearling Stallions Breeders’ Futurity at the 2022 APHA/WCHA Halter Million. Greg says the competition was tight, with lots of top horses vying for big prize money, including the $15,000+ offered in this particular class.
“These horses have gone back and forth, and today we got the big trophy,” Greg said. “The APHA and WCHA have come together and put some money there, and that makes it so you can come afford to do it. The Platinum and Gold Breeders’ Futurity are wonderful, and they’ve really exploded. It’s incredible.”
Incentives like APHA’s Platinum and Gold Breeders’ Futurities are particular attractive, he says.
“When I start looking for young horses, it’s very important to me,” Greg said. “I always say I need to gather up all the crumbs. Crumbs add up!”
FG Ring Of Fire is a 2021 sorrel overo stallion by Very Cool (QH) and out of Miss Kittee (QH); he was bred by Linda & Gary Gordon and is owned by Dr. Gigi Wood Davis of Savannah, Tennessee.
Platinum Non-Pro Yearling Geldings Breeders’ Futurity: Highmaintenancecowboy & Destin Lee Tonkin
Highmaintenancecowboy brought home the big bucks—$6,858 of the $17,147 purse—in the Platinum Non-Pro Yearling Geldings Breeders’ Futurity, shown by Destin Lee Tonkin.
Away from the APHA World Show for about a decade, this was Destin’s first time showing in the APHA Platinum classes, and she was invigorated, especially after her success with “Brodie,” a 2021 sorrel overo gelding by Paint Me Original and out of High Maintenance Kid.
“This gelding’s been a lot of fun,” Destin said. “[The Platinum] is kind of special to the Paint Horse association. We love supporting it, and we want to see it succeed.”
Bred by Kenton Young, Brodie is owned by Destin’s mother, Linda Sanders of Meridian, Idaho.
Platinum Non-Pro Solid Paint-Bred Yearling Mares: Broadway & Warren English Jr.
Broadway, a 2021 bay solid mare shown by Warren English Jr. of Sturgis, MI, was a hit, winning the Platinum Non-Pro Solid Paint-Bred Yearling Mares championship and $5,935. The class paid out $14,838 in full.
The mare, by Evinceble (QH) and out of Intended Too, is owned by Warren and was bred by Scott & Kelly Trahan.
Platinum Non-Pro Yearling Mares Breeders’ Futurity: KR Dancin All Night & Cara McMillian-Gibson
They’ll be dancin’ all night with $10,288 in their pockets!
That’s what Cara McMillian-Gibson and KR Dancin All Night took home for their win in the Platinum Non-Pro Yearling Mares Breeders’ Futurity, which paid out $32,151 total at the 2022 APHA/WCHA Halter Million.
