You’ve seen them in the Paint Horse Journal and around the horse shows, providing expert advice and assistance to horsemen of all disciplines. The Paint Horse Journal Pro Team consists of 12 APHA world champions who believe in a consistent presence in the Journal.
Meet PHJ Pro Team member Jerm Christensen
Jerm Christensen of West Point, Utah, is a long-time APHA member and a Markel APHA Professional Horseman; he’s been a Pro Team member since 2012. He established Christensen Show Horses in 2002 after showing successfully as a Youth and has guided his clients to multiple world and reserve world halter championships.
Favorite bands: Eric Church, Chris Ledoux, Charlie Daniels and George Strait
First horse: A Paint named Buzzy Bell
Family life: My wife, Kelly, and five children: Alivia, Abby, Parker, Justin and Gracie
First time showing? In 1989 doing the all-around through APHA.
Any superstitions? I have halters and lead shanks that are my good luck charms, and I always show in purple. I’m very superstitious, and if we have a good show, I always drive the same route to the show and eat at the same places.
One thing you can’t live without: My family and my horses.
Back-up career? I would like to get into the ranch horse classes. Showing a cutter is also on my bucket list. I think they are the ultimate athletes.
Advice for new trainers: Always treat your customers and the other people with whom you do business with respect and never cheat them. A great man who I always respected and looked up to gave me that advice.
Advice for picking a trainer: Watch how they treat their horses and their customers. Talk to their existing customers and also ask other trainers for input.
