In addition to hoots and hollers for fast spins and smooth lead changes, owners of Paint Horses had something extra to cheer for at the Tulsa Reining Classic, held August 26–31 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Partnering with the Tulsa Reining Classic, APHA offered 11 Paint-exclusive awards to high-finishing Paints at the show. Custom Gist Silversmiths trophy buckles were awarded in the Cardinal Ranch Open Derby, Ariat Novice Horse Open Derby, SmartPak Non-Pro Derby, Novice Horse Non-Pro Derby, Turnabout Farm Non-Pro Futurity, Darling 888 Ranch Developing Horse Open Futurity and the Hollywoodtinseltown Open Futurity, as well as the NRHA Non-Pro, Rookie, Youth and Open divisions.
Ms Dreamy, a 2010 sorrel solid mare by Magnum Chic Dream (QH) and out of A Gal With A Gun, marked a 219 to earn the APHA trophy buckle and fourth place in the SmartPak Non-Pro Derby. Jana Simons of Aubrey, Texas, bred Ms Dreamy, and the mare is now owned and showed by Dee-Dee Boeckman of Kingfisher, Oklahoma.
“I just bought Ms Dreamy in February, and she’s been great,” Dee-Dee said. “She’s got a great mind, she likes to work and she’s even better in the show pen than she is at home.
“In our run, she was really honest—she turned and stopped really well. I actually showed her at the NRHA Derby where she scored a 216, so I’m pretty proud of her for besting that score by three whole points!”
