Markel Insurance Renews APHA Support, Adds Professional Horseman Program Sponsorship

APHA is excited to announce Markel, the official insurance provider of APHA since 1997, has renewed its partnership and has agreed to be the title sponsor of the Markel Professional Horsemen program.

The Markel Professional Horsemen program—formerly the APHA Professional Horsemen program—was established in November 2009 and was designed to seek out honest, upstanding equine professionals that are members of APHA.

markel_logowhtAPHA Executive Director Billy Smith says horsemen and -women who join the program pledge to encourage professionalism, integrity and fairness throughout the horse industry, particularly the Paint Horse industry.

“Markel Professional Horsemen are true ambassadors of APHA who promote the breed and the Association at local Paint Horse shows and other equine events,” he said. “Markel and its staff share the same qualities and promote the same mission, so this should prove to be a partnership tailored for success.”

To become an APHA Professional Horsemen member, one must be an equine professional, an APHA member in good standing, provide references, complete the necessary paperwork and live by the APHA Professional Horsemen Code of Ethics. Learn more about the Markel Professional Horsemen Program at apha.com/programs/profhorsemen.

“Markel is proud to continue our relationship with APHA, and we will continue to offer insurance solutions for Paint Horse owners and horse-related businesses,” Markel’s Director of Western Disciplines Frank Costantini said. “Firmly committed to the horse industry, the opportunity to be a title sponsor of the Markel Professional Horsemen program provides a great opportunity to support dedicated horse professionals and promote good horsemanship.”

Through Xtras, APHA’s member reward program, Markel will continue to offer a 10 percent credit when members purchase a Commercial Equine Liability or Equi-Farm policy. Markel will also continue to offer insurance products related to equine insurance, including horse mortality, farm and ranch, private horse owners liability, commercial equine liability and horse association/club liability.
