APHF Announces Five New Permanent Scholarship Endowments

February 12, 2014

Five new permanent scholarship endowments have been established in 2013 and 2014 as part of the American Paint Horse Foundation. As endowments, these funds each produce a $1,000 scholarship annually that is awarded to an AjPHA member.

–       Cross Timbers PHC Scholarship #2

The Cross Timbers Paint Horse Club collected $25,000 to establish the club’s second endowment.

–       Bill and Rachael Yoesel Memorial Scholarship

Longtime APHA members Bill and Rachel Yoesel were dedicated to the American Paint Horse. Bill was a former APHA president, and Rachael served on the APHF scholarship committee for many years. Both Bill and Rachel died in 2012, and they bequeathed $25,000 to the APHF to establish a memorial scholarship in their names.

–       Sheila Plimpton Memorial Scholarship

The Nevada Paint Horse Club funded their second permanent endowment, which they named in honor of longtime club member Sheila Plimpton, who died in 2006.

–       Ashley Huntington Memorial Scholarship

Former AjPHA member Ashley Huntington died in 2013 following a battle with cancer. The Oklahoma Paint Horse Club raised more than $25,000 in Ashley’s memory during the 2013–2014 Oklahoma Holiday Classic, and they established a memorial endowment in Ashley’s name.

–       Bob and Theda Bartholomew Scholarship

As part of AjPHA President Kaitlyn McCulley’s service project, $5,200 was raised to help fulfill one of APHF’s oldest incomplete scholarship endowments. The Bob and Theda Bartholomew Scholarship was founded in the 1980s—Bob was an APHA national director, and the couple was well known as owners of top stallion Cita Mount. Following the contribution from Kaitlyn’s project, the fund lacked only $815 for permanent endowment—this amount was covered by funds donated to APHF following the dissolution of the Central Texas Paint Horse Club in 2014.

Additionally, several generous donors have pledged funds toward AjPHA Youth World Championship Show scholarships, which total more than $30,000 to date for the 2014 show. An additional $2,285 from the Central Texas Paint Horse Club has been placed in the Youth World Championship Show’s Permanent Scholarship Endowment fund—the goal of which is to eventually provide scholarships awarded in all classes at the Youth World Show.
