APHA’s Paint Barrel Racing Incentive Program (PBRIP) sees great turnout at The Cowgirl Gathering

Paint barrel racers from Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Colorado, and even Florida came to Fort Worth to run in the 2nd annual Cowgirl Gathering Barrel Race where nearly $10,000 in purse money was up for grabs.

With $3,500 in added money, Paint Barrel Racing Incentive Program (PBRIP) participation at the event totaled 66 entries with a payout of over $5,500, surpassing last year’s numbers.

Taking home a check of $982 and a pair of Durango boots was the champion of the 1D, Candie Wolf of Decatur, Texas, riding Kitnic.

“The PBRIP at The Cowgirl Gathering has become one of our largest races in the country for Paint Horses,” said APHA’s Manager of Racing Carly Peercy. “Our PBRIP program has had tremendous growth over the last couple of years and The Cowgirl Gathering race is a testament to that.”

2D Champion – Elizabeth Cloud on SS Streakin Heart – $842

3D Champion – Shawna turner on Makn Faith Shake Em – $561

4D Champion – Paul Ann Lucero – $421

The Texas-Bred Incentive added an extra $3,500 to the pot with no extra entry fee, giving the top five fastest Texas-foaled horses a chance to win extra money.

1st – $1,750 – Jaylan Clary on Dash of Hope

2nd – $700 – Kimberly Cockrell on Miss Goodyear

3rd – $525 – Kimberly Teague on Best Ta Fame

Jaylan said it best: “It pays to own a Paint!”
