Western Lineage recently joined an elite group of Paint broodmares when she became only the fourth mare to surpass $500,000 in offspring earnings on the racetrack.

A 1997 sorrel overo mare by Judys Lineage and out of Western Swing, Western Lineage was bred and is owned by Ronald Yates of Fort Smith, Arkansas—Ronald owned and ran her dam, Western Swing, as well. Western Lineage earned a little more than $9,000 in nine starts.

“She won two races and had a couple of injuries, but we knew she could run and tried hard,” Ronald said.

It was as a broodmare that Western Lineage cemented her legacy. Ten of her 11 foals to date have earned money on the track, contributing to her status as a leading Paint racing dam.

Though she had hovered just under the half-million mark for several years—she lacked only about $2,500 toward the milestone—good June and July efforts by Western Wasabi and Western Sol helped push their dam over the threshold. Her total earnings to date are $505,842.

The dam of 11, Western Lineage’s offspring include:

  • SM Country Snowman, a 2005 red roan overo stallion by Country Quick Dash, earner of $269,747 and two-time World Champion Running Paint Horse
  • Western Snow, a 2002 red roan overo gelding by Royal Quick Flash, earner of $70,417 and four-time racing Champion

westernlineage-foal“She didn’t have a baby this year, but she’s back in foal to Royal Quick Flash,” Ronald said. “The mare’s been real good and all her babies try. She’s 17; she looks good, and she’s in good health. She’s been a real treasure to be around.”
