Zippos Sensation, Timeless Assets top the 2014 APHA Breeders Trust charts

Every year, it’s interesting to see how the Breeders’ Trust earnings rankings shake out. Two dominating forces—Zippos Sensation and Timeless Assets—have claimed the peak of the Breeders’ Trust leading sire and leading earner charts, respectively, as their own in recent years; with last year’s statistics in the books, it seems no one could touch these Paints’ perennial success again in 2014.

Top Stallion: Zippos Sensation
1993 sorrel overo stallion by Zippo Pine Bar (QH) and out of Satin N Lace
Breeder: Joe Bachmuth, Cullman, Alabama
Owner: Simons Show Horses LLC, Aubrey, Texas

Owned by the Simons since he was a yearling, Zippo has been subscribed to the Breeders’ Trust since the program’s beginning. Taking over the Breeders’ Trust Leading Sire title in 2001, Zippo was the first performance stallion to claim the No. 1 spot—halter stallion Socketts Imprint and Mighty Awesome topped the chart from 1996 to 2000—and he’s held it ever since. In 2014, Zippo had 121 foals earn 7,372 eligible points—that translates to Breeders’ Trust earnings of $57,636. That’s a margin of more than $20,000 over the next closest stallion by foal earnings in 2014.

The Top Five Breeders’ Trust Stallion by Foal Earnings in 2014 were:

  1. Zippos Sensation
  2. All Time Fancy
  3. Special Invitation

  5. Gentlemen Send Roses

Top Earner: Timeless Assets
2005 bay overo gelding by Frozen Assets and out of This Times Divine
Breeder: Charlene Lee Maybury, West Jefferson, Ohio
Owner: Coleen Bull, Reed City, Michigan

Taking his fifth-consecutive title as the Breeders’ Trust Leading Earner was Timeless Assets. In 2014, “Tucson” racked up 1,249 points—nearly all in Amateur events with Coleen—worth $9,835.22. Three horsewomen reap the Breeders’ Trust benefits of Tucson’s success. For his eligible points earned in 2014, Coleen takes home more than $6,800: 70 percent of the gelding’s earnings. Charlene, his nominator, earned $976; Bunny Knaus subscribed Frozen Assets to the Breeders’ Trust, and for that she receives a check worth nearly $2,000. In his lifetime, Tucson has earned more than $84,000 through the Breeders’ Trust.

The Top Five Breeders’ Trust Earning Horses in 2014 were:

  1. Timeless Assets
  2. Seems Like Heaven
  3. Nighttime Sensation
  4. Bodacious Enterprise
  5. Shes Alotta Splash

In 2014, the Breeders’ Trust paid out more than $607,000 to participants, with a per-point value of $7.81.
