In April 2014, Colonels Smokingun became the fifth stallion in National Reining Horse Association history whose offspring have earned more than $6 million. To date, they have earned more than $6.18 million in reining events worldwide.
Bred by Eric Storey of Henagar, Alabama, the 1993 sorrel overo stallion nicknamed “Gunner” was by Colonelfourfreckle (QH) and out of Katie Gun (QH). His final owner was McQuay Stables of Tioga, Texas, where he stood as a stallion under the care of Tim and Colleen McQuay until his death in July 2013.
With competition earnings of nearly $175,000 of his own, Gunner went on to sire 727 registered Paint Horse foals, 150 of which have APHA show records to date.
His top earning reining get include Tinker With Guns, Americasnextgunmodel, Colonels Nite Special, Gunnatrashya, Gunners Tinseltown, The Great Guntini, Always Gotyer Guns Up and Snow Gun, just to name a few.
Gunner’s offspring also excelled in APHA competition, earning more than 3,100 performance points to date, 13 world championships, 11 reserve world championships and 80 Registers of Merit.
