Platinum Breeders’ Futurity payouts set new records at the 2022 Halter Million, with total purses worth $317,180. The lineup included 10 Platinum classes this year for weanlings and yearlings shown by non-pro exhibitors.
Platinum Non-Pro Weanling Stallions Breeders’ Futurity: Wing Man & Victoria Summers
“I have no words,” Victoria Summers said leaving the class with a huge grin and Wing Man in tow. The pair earned $13,136 of the total purse that exceeded $50,000.
Wing Man had a tough birth, Victoria shared, and she never expected to have so much success with him so soon. A 2022 sorrel overo colt by The Final Verse and out of Top Shelf Sally (QH), Wing Man was bred by Carolyn Stewart and is owned by Victoria, who is from Boerne, Texas. But the colt loves to show, and his presence simply cannot be ignored.
“He is such a fun colt to show. I just have to stand there and let him do his thing. He is a great, great horse,” Victoria said. “I never thought the futurity season for us would be like this. I have no words. I can’t thank Monty & Anna Horn enough, along with Berto—he’s amazing— and, of course, my dad supporting me and my crazy dreams.”

Platinum Non-Pro Weanling Mares Breeders’ Futurity: KR Peppermint Patty & Patricia Ellsworth
After an amazing trip to The Breeders Halter Futurity, KR Peppermint Patty and Patricia Ellsworth continued their winning ways at the 2022 APHA/WCHA Halter Million. They won the Platinum Non-Pro Weanling Mares Breeders’ Futurity, cashing in on the champion’s payout of $18,846.
“We’re enjoying the moment because we know how hard it is to get one of these!” Patricia said. “She’s just an amazing filly, and it’s a privilege to show her.”
Nearly $75,000 was paid out to exhibitors in the Platinum Non-Pro Weanling Mares Breeders’ Futurity class alone, with more than $300,000 awarded across 10 Platinum classes this year.
“What an incredible incentive to breed for a Paint Horse,” Patricia said. “It’s a wonderful opportunity. You have to work really hard to get here, but it pays off.”
KR Peppermint Patty is a 2022 sorrel overo mare by Execute and out of Chocolate Kande (QH). Bred by Terry & Anastasia Kull, the mare is owned by Brian Ellsworth of Kendall, Wisconsin.
Platinum Non-Pro Solid Paint-Bred Stallions & Geldings Breeders’ Futurity: Caught N Executed & Warren English Jr.
After seeing the money offered up as part of the Platinum Breeders’ Futurity last year, Warren English Jr. of Sturgis, Michigan, made sure he had some eligible horses in his barn for 2022. Caught N Executed, his 2021 sorrel solid stallion, earned the owner/breeder/exhibitor his second Platinum win of the week, this time in the Platinum Non-Pro Solid Paint-Bred Stallions & Geldings Breeders’ Futurity.
“It’s so much fun coming here. We came last year but missed the Platinum and Gold classes. This year, we made sure to sign up for them,” he said.
“Rerun” netted $5,723 with Warren in the Platinum, adding to money already won throughout the APHA Gold Breeders’ Futurity classes, WCHA Big Money classes and the Breeders’ Halter Futurity.
“That’s a lot of money,” he said. “For us, this stuff is not inexpensive. To be able to come out and show a horse and win that kind of money is really incentive to do it. I suspect you’ll see a lot more people in these classes when they see the money involved!”
Caught N Executed is by Execute and out of Caught Ya Lookn (QH).
