APHA’s Paint Barrel Racing Incentive Program is putting money on the line to showcase the athleticism and trainability of ex-racehorses. PBRIP is offering $250 added money for the fastest PBRIP-enrolled Paint Horse in the barrel racing division at the Sport of Kings Challenge, a horse show exclusively for ex-racehorses that takes place June 19 at Remington Park in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The Sport of Kings is offering $1,500 in total added money in the barrel racing as well, making it a great opportunity to saddle up your race-bred Paint for this unique event.

The Sport of Kings Challenge celebrates ex-racehorses—including Thoroughbreds, Paints, Quarter Horses, Arabians and Appaloosas—who are now enjoying success in other careers. In order to participate in the show, horses must have a lip tattoo and/or a published workout. Events range from hunter/jumper classes to Western pleasure and trail to dressage and eventing, encompassing many possible avenues in which these athletes can compete.

Have a registered American Paint Horse and a current APHA membership but aren’t enrolled in PBRIP? Getting involved is easy! Go to pbrip.com and fill out the enrollment form—PBRIP enrollment is only $35 for the entire year, and it makes you and your Paint eligible for exclusive sidepots at tons of barrel racing events around the country. Forms can be submitted before an event to APHA or at the PBRIP-approved event itself before the race. To learn more, visit pbrip.com or contact Director of Racing/PBRIP Karen Utecht at kutecht@apha.com or (817) 222-6444.

The Sport of Kings Challenge barrel race takes place in an open format, so entrants can run their pattern at any time on June 19. The barrel racing arena will be open from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.; ribbons and prize money will be available after 9 p.m. that night.
