Paint Horses brought a bit of color to the 2014 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo—Flash noticed at least three that added chrome to the world’s premier rodeo, which took place December 4–13 in Las Vegas.
Perennial champion Trevor Brazile of Decatur, Texas, clinched his 21st championship at this year’s event and was named All-Around Cowboy—his 12th time to earn that honor. Though Trevor rode several horses in the team roping and tie-down roping competitions, it seems his go-to choice for heading was Pine Time Boogie, a 2001 brown solid Paint-bred by Pine Time and out of Tender Moments.
With the Paint, Trevor finished second in Round 3, third in Round 7 and fourth in Rounds 1 and 5; he also won Round 8 with another mount. All told, Pine Time Boogie helped Trevor earn in excess of $58,000 at the 2014 NFR; they finished fifth overall in the team roping with partner Travis Graves.
Making her NFR debut in her second professional season was Samantha Lyne of Cotulla, Texas. Samantha traded the reins of her 6-year-old Quarter Horse LK Watch Me Rock for Mor Jazz, a 2004 bay overo gelding by Jazz Pep and out of Mora.
Samantha and Mor Jazz teamed up for Rounds 3, 4, 8, 9 and 10—their best finish was Round 9, where they finished third to earn $11,340.
The American Rodeo tie-down roping champion Tyson Durfey of Weatherford, Texas, added some chrome to his NFR ride in Rounds 6, 9 and 10—though we don’t know his mount’s identity, it appears to be a sorrel overo with high whites and a bald face.
These horses certainly proved they can hang with the big boys on the big stage at the world’s premier rodeo—we know Paints are “where speed meets style.” As the Flash staff likes to say, #PaintsDoItBest.
