Six Paint Horses adding chrome to the dressage court at U.S. Dressage Federation events were recently honored by APHA as part of the 2022 USDF All-Breed Awards.

- Ballys Jax Of Spades, a 2004 black solid gelding by Ballys Thunder (QH) x Dominos Lexxus
- Zippos Hot Shot, a 2011 bay tobiano mare by Zippos Goldn Mover x A Genuine Shot (TB)
- Tru Perfect Blend, a 2009 bay tobiano gelding by Son Of A Tru Rolex x Buds Blend (QH)
- Custom League Investd, a 2008 bay solid mare by Alotta Charisma x MSU Custom Shadow (QH)
- Tyed Up In Charm, a 2016 dun overo gelding by Deeflashyicebluecharm x Fancyssilverhearts
APHA sponsors the champion and reserve champion Paint Horses in the Open, Adult Amateur and Vintage Cup divisions from Training Level through Grand Prix. To be eligible for this award, the horse must be APHA registered, meet USDF’s requirements, and the owner and exhibitor must be a current APHA member. A median score of at least 60 percent is required.
Katherine Nilsen-Johnson of Columbia, Maryland, and her tobiano mare Zippos Hot Shot (pictured above) won the Open and Adult Amateur award in their first year showing at Second Level.
“I am so proud of my little Paint Horse. The jump from First Level to Second is a big one, with increased demands on the horse and rider, and it is exciting to see what the future holds as we continue to develop and refine our skills in the dressage ring,” Katherine said. “I am grateful for the support we’ve received as we continue to push to improve ourselves, seeing what this little mare is capable of.”
APHA congratulates these talented Paints and look forward to even more chrome in the ring in the future.
