Paint Barrel Racing Incentive Program 2018 champions honored

Accumulating the most total points in APHA’s Paint Barrel Racing Incentive Program for 2018, Star Dude Blackie and owner Randee Prindle proved they were the program’s toughest barrel racing team. Winning the 2D championship and clinching reserve in the 1D, Randee and “Blackie” were named 2018 PBRIP High-Point Champion.

Randee’s owned Blackie for about seven years, and they’ve participated in PBRIP since the beginning. The 2005 black solid gelding, who is by Star Bar Jodie and out of Leos Lonesum Dove (QH), was originally a rope horse, but found his niche around the cloverleaf.

“I’m blown away,” Randee said. “I didn’t haul him more than normal last year and wasn’t chasing points—he was just more consistent and we kept the barrels up.”

Randee appreciates the opportunities afforded for Paints through the PBRIP program.

“It has opened up the opportunity for Paint Horses to compete for incentives, which is really nice,” she said. “In the last couple year, I’ve seen a lot more people hauling their Paints and running them, just for that extra incentive, and that’s awesome.”

Randee’s taking home a trophy buckle for her high-point win. Champions and reserve winners were also crowned in four PBRIP divisions, based on barrel racing’s “D” format and points earned in each at PBRIP events throughout the year. Winners take home a trophy saddle from KO Trading; reserve champions earn trophy breast collars. Awards will be presented on April 13 at the Lazy E Arena in Guthrie, Oklahoma.
