The versatility of ranch horses was put on display as they competed in cow work, reining, stock horse pleasure and stock horse trail over a span of three days at the Western Horseman Stock Horse World Show. Hosted by the Stock Horse of Texas, the event took place October 26–28 in Abilene, Texas. The final day of the competition was marked by the Stock Horse Derby and AQHA Ranching Heritage Challenge.
The total payout throughout the show was $27,600, and an additional $36,000 in prizes were presented at the exhibitor awards party. Seven divisions put these horses’ skills to the test, and Paints made their presence known.
Laura Yarbrough rode NADA Pepto Taz to a championship in the Intermediate Non-Pro division. NADA Pepto Taz is a 2009 chestnut solid mare by Pepto Taz (QH) and out of Smart Tequila Sheila.
The defending winner of the Open championship, Seven S Woodrow showed up on the big stage again to claim the reserve world championship. The 2013 sorrel overo gelding by Woody Be Tuff (QH) and out of Bo Spoon (QH) also clinched the reserve spot in the Open Derby.
