Therapeutic Riding Instructor Certification Scholarship Information

Potential instructors must possess skills in the areas of Equine Management, Horsemanship, Instruction, Teaching Methodology and Knowledge of Disabilities. The average cost of registration for a PATH Intl. Certification workshop and test, which takes place over three (3) days, is $800. APHA’s mission is to assist individuals, with preference given to medical professionals, to cover this cost through application and acceptance of a one-time $800 scholarship.

Wounded Warriors wishing to become a certified instructor may do so under the same criteria of being both PATH Intl. and APHA members and completing the course to be eligible for a scholarship.  Wounded Warriors should complete all applicable portions of the application.

Distribution Guidelines

Purpose of Fund:  To assist prospective instructors with the cost of pursuing PATH Intl. Registered Certification.

Eligibility for Fund Distribution:   Applicants must be both APHA members and PATH Intl. members in good standing for the past two years,  (exceptions could be made at the discretion of the committee). Any other memberships pertinent to this application are also useful to the review committee.

Fund Distribution:  Each fund candidate must be a member of both APHA and PATH Intl., successfully meet the criteria to become a Registered Instructor In-Training, and have completed at least 10 hours volunteering at a PATH Intl. Premier Accredited Center.  Four scholarships of $800 each can be distributed annually at APHF’s sole discretion.  Once documentation from Path Intl. has been received that the course was successfully completed, a check will be sent in the previously stated amount to the recipient. Once notified you will receive a scholarship, you must complete the course within 24 months, or award may be redistributed. Quarterly updates required until course completed. Wounded Warriors may also apply.

Any candidate receiving APHA Therapeudic Riding Instructor Certification Scholarships must follow all current APHA Foundation rules for the disbursement of funds.

Deadline for this application recieved at APHA Headquarters to the attention of Karen Ficklin/APHA Therapeutic Riding Scholarship Program is May 1 of each year. Any additional information requested by the committee shall be returned back to APHA by June 15. The scholarships will be awarded in August.
