Capturing wins in Open, Amateur and Youth classes at the 2026 APHA/WCHA Halter Million, Mamselle joins an elite covey of mares as the newest Scarlet Print Memorial Award winner.
Presented in honor of 10-time APHA world champion Scarlet Print, the award recognizes top halter mares who secure world championships in all three divisions in a single year. The winner receives a custom bronze trophy presented by the Jerry Engle family of Bakersfield, California.
‘Berry’ Good
Raised in California with a family who showed halter horses, Heather Berry remembers Scarlet Print and the impact she made on the Paint Horse world. She’s dreamed of winning the memorial award—it’s a “bucket list item,” Heather, says. Her family stepped away from the horse world for a few years due to health concerns, but they recently decided to reinvest themselves and went looking for the right horse. They found it in Mamselle, a 2024 bay solid mare by Solaris (QH) and out of Padrona.
“We wanted a really competitive horse for the family to show,” Heather said. “We called Chris [Arentsen], and he said that he had [Mamselle]. The rest is history.”
Purchased in May 2026, they wasted no time making a splash with “Sissy.” Daughter Chloe scored a reserve world championship at the American Quarter Horse Youth Association World Show in August, and Heather won a Breeders Halter Futurity championship in September.
The team turned their sights on the Halter Million, hopeful to make an impact there, too. In Fort Worth, Texas, Sissy won world championships in:
- Youth 2-Year-Old Mares with Chloe Berry
- Open 2-Year-Old Mares with Christopher Arentsen
- Amateur 2-Year-Old Mares with Heather Berry
“She’s pretty and she’s balanced,” Heather said. “She’s just got a lot of look to her. That’s what I look for: a mare that looks like a mare.”
With a kind, people-loving personality, Sissy is the total package for the Berry family.
“It’s really a dream come true being able to do this with my kids,” Heather said. “[Scarlet Print] was a great mare, and she did great things and had great babies. So hopefully [Sissy] can walk in Scarlet’s footprints.”
