Teal Bumstead wins 2024 Robyn Hanna Sportsmanship Award

AjPHA exhibitor Teal Bumstead of Edgewater, Florida, was awarded the 2024 Robyn Hanna Sportsmanship Award on June 26 at the APHA World Championship Show in Fort Worth, Texas.

This award is presented to a deserving Youth member who demonstrates exceptional sportsmanship throughout the show. It honors the memory of late APHA member Robyn Hanna, who embodied the true essence of sportsmanship, displaying kindness, integrity and unwavering support for fellow competitors. Former AjPHA President Meredith Milton established this award as part of her presidential service project in 2016. As this year’s winner, Teal receives a $1,000 scholarship from the American Paint Horse Foundation and a Gist Silversmiths trophy buckle courtesy of the Milton family.

Teal began riding at age 5, participating in lesson and horse camps. Under the guidance of Taylor Childers at Taylor Made Performance Horses, Teal continued to grow as a rider and fell in love with showing. Here in Fort Worth, Teal competed in all-around events aboard The Call Girl, her 2018 chestnut overo mare. Their results included bronze champion honors in Novice Youth Horsemanship 18 & Under and fourth in Novice Youth Trail 18 & Under.

The horsewoman’s dedication, respect and positive outlook didn’t go unnoticed at the World Show. An anonymous panel of judges, plus World Show attendee nominations, helped select the winner. APHA appreciates Teal’s actions as an outstanding role model at the 2024 World Show.
