John Ed Tabb honored with APHA Don Manuello Ring Steward Award

A familiar face around APHA shows, John Ed Tabb will receive the APHA Don Manuello Ring Steward Award on June 27 at the 2024 APHA Hall of Fame & Awards Ceremony.

Tabb has been an APHA-carded judge since 2009 and also holds judging cards with ApHC, PtHA, PHBA, POA and the North American Saddle Mule Association.  He’s served as a ring steward for APHA from 2009 to 2019, assisting at major events that include the APHA World Championship Show. Tabb lives in Greenbriar, Tennessee.

“John is the epitome of a true southern gentleman,” APHA Director of Judges & Professional Horsemen Sandy Jirkovsky said. “He is always friendly and helps put our exhibitors at ease at the World Show. John is always professional and so deserving of ‘The Manny.’ ”

The award’s namesake agrees.

“I have known John Ed for many years, and I worked with him as a ring steward at the Appaloosa World and Pinto World,” Manuello said. “I am honored to present this award to John Ed.”

The Don Manuello Ring Steward Award, affectionately known as “The Manny,” recognizes the hard work and dedication of the unsung show arena heroes, the ring stewards. One deserving ring steward is chosen each year to honor their determination and commitment toward making shows a successful and sound environment for everyone.
