The American Paint Horse Association and National Cutting Horse Association paired up in a new partnership to expand access to cutting horse education. The partner organizations recently launched a new cutting judging and education module through horseIQ, APHA’s popular virtual learning site.

APHA’s horseIQ platform provides a comprehensive range of courses designed to expand education among horse owners, exhibitors, enthusiasts and judges. It features discipline-specific judging information alongside a variety of other topics including horse management, breeding and show management.

This collaboration creates a unique opportunity for APHA and NCHA members to access educational content tailored specifically to cutting. The partnership enhances the educational offerings of both organizations, promoting clarity and knowledge in what judges consider in the sport of cutting.

The new course covers the sport of cutting, how it’s judged, scoring and provides practical examples of credit-earning maneuvers. Test your knowledge with penalty test and video examples that bring the rulebook to life and gain an improved understanding of what judges are evaluating in the show pen. The course is available with a full-site subscription to horseIQ.

“The NCHA couldn’t be more excited about this partnership with APHA,” NCHA Director of Judges Andy Adams said. “The educational opportunities created through this program—for both our judges and our members—are truly exceptional. Providing clear, consistent education for our judges while also giving our membership practical insight into what is being evaluated in the show pen is a tremendous step forward for our sport. Elizabeth and Sandy have been outstanding partners in shaping this project, and we look forward to what this collaboration will mean for the future of cutting.”

APHA Director of Judges and Professional Horsemen Sandy Jirkovsky agrees.

“APHA has a rich tradition of excellence and innovation, and our team is committed to maintaining and elevating the high standards for which the association is known,” she said. “Our goal is to create a visual, interactive guide both for exhibitors and judges. Partnering with NCHA to develop a new cutting course on horseIQ is a meaningful step in expanding horseIQ’s host of discipline-specific courses—and in providing high-quality education that supports judges and exhibitors across breeds and organizations.”

APHA and NCHA encourage members of their organizations, along with anyone interested in cutting horses, to take advantage of this online learning opportunity to enhance their knowledge, skills and the relationship with their horses.
