Breeders' Futurity: A Celebration of Equine Excellence - APHA: American Paint Horse Association

Breeders’ Futurity

The APHA Breeders’ Futurity is a prestigious annual competition that supports the Breeders’ Trust program by offering a select slate of classes that showcase the offspring of Breeders’ Trust-subscribed stallions and the mares bred to them. The Breeders’ Futurity offers lucrative payouts with a percentage of the purse paid to the foal owner/lessee and the mare nominator.

Both halter and performance classes are offered as part of the Breeders’ Futurity, and two divisions are offered. The Gold Division includes Open halter and Open/Non-Pro performance events, and the Platinum Division includes Non-Pro halter classes only. Gold Breeders’ Futurity performance classes take place at the APHA World Championship Show. Gold and Platinum Breeders’ Futurity halter classes take place at the APHA/WCHA Halter Million. Both events are hosted in Fort Worth, Texas.

Full program details—including deadlines, fees, payback schedules and point systems—are available in the Breeders’ Futurity brochure.

The Divisions

Gold

For a foal to be eligible for the Gold Breeders’ Futurity, it must be sired by a Breeders’ Trust-subscribed stallion, out of a Breeders’ Futurity-nominated mare, and nominated to the Breeders’ Trust program. Open and non-pro performance classes and open halter classes are offered in the Gold Division for horses through age 5.

All Breeders’ Futurity Gold Division performance classes take place at the APHA World Championship Show. Breeders’ Futurity Gold Division halter classes take place at the APHA/WCHA Halter Million. Both events are hosted annually in Fort Worth, Texas, and provide the opportunity to earn valuable payouts that help enhance the value of your horse.

Platinum

The Platinum division of the Breeders’ Futurity is an elite weanling and yearling non-pro halter futurity; it’s separate from the Gold Breeders’ Futurity division. To be eligible for the Platinum Division, the foal must be sired by a Platinum nominated stallion (sire must also be subscribed to Breeders’ Trust), out of a Platinum-nominated mare, and nominated to the Breeders’ Trust. Platinum yearlings must pay a nomination fee for the program, as well.

Platinum Division foals may also compete in Gold Breeders’ Futurity classes, provided that all requirements, fees, and payments are fulfilled. The Breeders’ Futurity Platinum Division halter classes take place annually at the APHA/WCHA Halter Million in Fort Worth, Texas.
