One of the missions of the American Paint Horse Foundation is Youth education. APHF offers three scholarship opportunities: academic scholarships, in-arena scholarships through the APHA World Championship Show, and therapeutic riding scholarships.
The American Paint Horse Foundation proudly awards more than 50 academic scholarships each year to outstanding Paint Horse Youth around the world. Each $1,000 scholarship is renewable for up to three years, recognizing students who exemplify dedication to academics, leadership and the Paint Horse community.
Selection is based on AjPHA involvement, academic achievement, community service and application materials. Some scholarships may have residency-specific eligibility requirements.
Applicants must be AjPHA or APHA members for the past three years, be graduating high school seniors (or apply within two years of graduation), have passed a college entrance exam, submit three letters of reference and include an essay outlining their educational goals. Recipients must maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher each academic year for renewal eligibility.
Applications are open December 1–March 1.
The APHF scholarship selection committee reviews all applications. Eligible applicants are ranked on a rubric, and the committee selects recipients for each available scholarship.
Each academic scholarship is worth $1,000 and renewable for up to three years after the first award year. Renewals must be submitted at least 4–6 weeks before classes begin to allow sufficient time to process requests and send funds to the institutions.
Several items are required annually to renew your APHF academic scholarship.

Since 2013, the American Paint Horse Foundation has helped provide scholarship awards to Youth competing at the APHA World Championship Show. The initiative was launched thanks to a group of halter industry supporters who generated the first funds for Youth halter class exhibitors. The idea expanded, and in 2015, the AjPHA Youth World Championship Show became an all-scholarship show—the first of its kind in the horse industry. Every Youth World Championship class at the APHA World Show awards scholarship funds to the top three exhibitors and one randomly selected exhibitor from the class.
APHF keeps track of all scholarship funds earned by Youth exhibitors. Some put their scholarship funds to use right away; others have years to collect their college funding. Either way, these funds reward Youth—and their families—for investing in Paint Horses and the intrinsic benefits that come along with a life shared with horses.
