Academic Scholarships
The American Paint Horse Foundation awards more than 50 academic scholarships annually to Paint Horse Youth around the world; each academic scholarship is worth $1,000 and renewable for up to three years after the first award year.
The selection criteria for APHF academic scholarships is based on the member’s involvement with the AjPHA, academic merit, community service and other application materials. Some scholarships will also have applicant restrictions regarding the applicant’s state or area of residency.
Applications are due by March 1 annually.
Application
For academic scholarship consideration, students must be a member of AjPHA or APHA for the past three years, must be a graduating high school senior (or apply within two years of graduation), must pass a college entrance examination, provide three letters of reference and submit an essay explaining their educational plans.
Once a scholarship is granted, the student must maintain a cumulative 3.0 or better grade-point average each academic year to be eligible for scholarship renewal.
How to Apply:
- Review the application carefully
- You will need to provide:
- Personal and family information
- Scholastic information, including GPA, class rank, transcripts and SAT/ACT scores
- A 500-word essay on educational plans and goals
- A photo
- All APHA- and other horse-related activities
- All extracurricular and community involvement
- Three letters for recommendation submitted through the Letter of Recommendation Form
- The entire application must be submitted by March 1.
The APHF scholarship selection committee reviews all applications. Eligible applicants are ranked on a rubric, and the committee selects recipients for each available scholarship.
Renewal
Each academic scholarship is worth $1,000 and renewable for up to three years after the first award year. Renewals must be submitted at least 4–6 weeks before classes begin to allow sufficient time to process requests and send funds to the institutions.
Renewal Requirements:
Several items are required annually to renew your APHF academic scholarship.
- A copy of your class schedule, showing that you are still a full-time student (minimum of 12 hours)
- A copy of your transcript, showing you maintained a cumulative 3.0 GPA
- A revised summary of your education and career plans/goals
