Veteran APHA staff member Allyson Pennington is taking the reins of APHA’s MemberCare team. As MemberCare director and show approval/show results manager, Allyson will coordinate the association’s team that processes most APHA business transactions while continuing to coordinate show processing, results and approvals.

Allyson’s lifelong connection to horses began early on, when she first saw them on television. Her first job was mucking out horse stalls for $1 an hour—money she put toward riding lessons. While attending Texas A&M University, Allyson worked for Texas State Extension Horse Specialists Doug Householder and B.F. Yeates. During that time, she met past APHA President Bill Jackson, whose enthusiasm for Paint Horses and APHA inspired her to pursue a career with the organization.

Now a 32-year veteran of the association, Allyson began her APHA career in February 1994 in the registration department. She was named assistant registrar in 1999 and was later promoted to registrar, serving in that role for seven years. Since then, Allyson has continued to expand her leadership responsibilities as former manager of facilities and the association’s retail store. Allyson is excited about her new position as MemberCare director.

“MemberCare is the starting point for all things APHA,” Allyson said. “I am very proud of the staff and their dedication to making APHA the best it can be. I have come full circle with APHA, back in the department where it all started. The incredible MemberCare staff have welcomed me home and I am so very grateful and excited about what the future holds.”
