Speedin In Traffic & Carol Waters win 2024 PBRIP year-end title

Topping the PBRIP 1D division and earning 149 total points, Speedin In Traffic and owner Carol Waters of Red Rock, Oklahoma, won the 2024 PBRIP Year-End Championship title. This award recognizes the Paint Barrel Racing Incentive Program’s highest total point-earner.

Speedin In Traffic is a 2020 sorrel tobiano mare by Traffic Guy (QH) and out of Speedin For Cash. The mare won close to $30,000 for Carol in 2024.

“The highlight was winning this—that was my goal. I went to all of the Paint races to try and win it,” Carol said. “This was a futurity horse. At the beginning of the year, she was up and down and then had some time off. She came back winning and slowly worked her way up from placing in the 1D to winning it. Winning her first 1D buckle this fall was another highlight, and she placed at the BFA [Breeders Futurity of America 4-Year-Old Futurity]. By the end of the year, she was really rocking and winning.”

Carol’s been a PBRIP fan since the beginning, and “Fancy” isn’t her only success story. She had a second horse—Blazin For Cash, a 2018 sorrel overo mare who is also out of Speedin For Cash—finish as the 1D reserve champion for 2024. The two horses represent the third-generation of Carol’s speed-bred breeding program. The horsewoman says she plans to flush an embryo from Fancy and continue competing with the mare.

The PBRIP overall reserve champion for 2024 is Yogis Shawne Twister, a 2015 chestnut solid mare owned by Hele Bon Thompson of Yale, Oklahoma. The mare earned 125 total PBRIP points last year and clinched Top Five spots in the PBRIP 2D and 3D as well.

About the PBRIP Championship

PBRIP is an incentive program that provides sidepots for participating Paint barrel racers at events around the country. It bridges the gap between barrel racers who run Paints and APHA by making it easier for them to participate in the organization without having to attend traditional breed shows.

Carol, Hele and other PBRIP winners will be honored July 5 at the Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth, Texas, during the PBRIP Barrel Racing Sweepstakes awards presentation at the APHA World Championship Show.
