Paints top 2024 NCHA Futurity honors & Chrome Cash exclusives

The 2024 NCHA Futurity boasted payouts exceeding $5 million this year. Two Paints were among the exhibitors clinching prestigious championship titles and fat checks at the premier competition hosted by the National Cutting Horse Association November 11–December 7.

Sarah Morine of Brock, Texas, and Smart Look Arising scored a 221.5 to top this year’s Non-Pro Futurity, scoring $67,861 for the win. They also earned nearly $5,700 in APHA Chrome Cash. Smart Look Arising is a 2021 bay solid mare by Badboonarising and out of Smart Lookin Laney (QH). Sarah owns the mare, who was bred by Rayburn Brazzel of Abilene, Texas.

Marcos Chocron-Arocha of Aledo, Texas, and Poccahontas took home not one but two championship titles. First, they scored a 219.5 to win the Intermediate Amateur championship. The pair improved on that effort with a 220.5 to win the Amateur championship, too. They earned paychecks worth $72,059 between the two classes, plus over $9,500 in Chrome Cash payouts. Poccahontas is a 2021 bay solid mare by Metallic Rebel and out of Daisy Poochanan (QH). Horse Country Arena LLC of Weatherford, Texas, owns the mare, who was bred by Paul and Julie Hansma of Weatherford.

2024 NCHA Futurity Recap                                                                         

Paint-bred horses competed impressively across the entire NCHA Futurity. Notable were the following statistics:

  • 14 of the 20 Open Futurity finalists were Paint-bred
  • 17 of the 22 Non-Pro Futurity finalists were Paint-bred
  • 18 of the 31 Amateur Futurity finalists were Paint-bred
  • 18 of the 33 Intermediate Amateur Futurity finalists were Paint-bred

APHA Chrome Cash Exclusives

A total of 342 APHA-registered horses competed for over $188,000 in exclusive Chrome Cash payouts at the 2024 NCHA Futurity. Chrome Cash is a class-within-a-class incentive for APHA horses; entry fees and the generous support of Chrome Cash sponsor Badboonarising funded the purses.

  • Open Chrome Cash

A total of 93 entries competed for $53,015 in the Open Chrome Cash class; the top 12 received payouts. Special congratulations to:

    • Co-champion: Morgan Cromer & Cricket Reyzin Cash, a 2021 sorrel solid mare by Reyzin The Cash x RN Starlights Cat (QH)—$9,542
    • Co-champion: Tosten Peterson & Smart Stevie Chic, a 2021 red roan solid mare by Stevie Rey Von x Smart Crackin Chic (QH) —$9,542

 

  • Intermediate Open Chrome Cash

A total of 51 entries competed for $28,245 in the Intermediate Open Chrome Cash class; the top 12 received payouts. Special congratulations to:

    • Champion: Cooper Clark & Skyler (APHA: SMF Skyler), a 2021 sorrel solid mare by Reyzin The Cash x Show Biz Kitty (QH)—$5,649
    • Reserve: Ascencion Banuelos & Little Jocey (APHA: Josey Too), a 2021 chestnut solid mare by Metallic Rebel x Little Lacey—$4,519

 

  • Limited Open Chrome Cash

A total of 23 entries competed for $13,135 in the Limited Open Chrome Cash class; the top six received payouts. Special congratulations to:

    • Champion: Antonio Sergio de Araujo & Breyking Badd, a 2021 sorrel solid gelding by Badboonarising x Rey N Style—$3,940
    • Reserve: Cooper Clark & Skyler (APHA: SMF Skyler)—$3,152

 

  • Non-Pro Chrome Cash

A total of 53 entries competed for $28,480 in the Non-Pro Chrome Cash class; the top 12 received payouts. Special congratulations to:

    • Champion: Sarah Morine & Smart Look Arising—$5,696
    • Reserve: Stuart Bozeman & Cold Shot Or Checks, a 2021 sorrel solid stallion by Stevie Rey Von x Checkers Live Oak (QH)—$4,556

 

  • Intermediate Non-Pro Chrome Cash

A total of 33 entries competed for $17,210 in the Intermediate Non-Pro Chrome Cash class; the top eight received payouts. Special congratulations to:

    • Champion: Jessica Pounds & Reyzin Da Martini, a 2021 sorrel solid mare by Reyzin The Cash x DMAC Bellii Martini (QH)—$4,302
    • Reserve: Katherine Whitby & Swayin At The Disco, a 2021 red roan solid mare by Stevie Rey Von x Disco Crat (QH)—$3,442

 

  • Amateur Chrome Cash

A total of 48 entries competed for $26,500 in the Amateur Chrome Cash class; the top 10 received payouts. Special congratulations to:

    • Champion: Marcos Chocron-Arocha & Poccahontas—$5,300
    • Reserve: Makenzie Cowan & Strawberrie Roan (APHA: Crimson Catty), a 2021 red roan solid mare by Catty Hawk x GAR Bella Lena (QH)—$4,240

 

  • Intermediate Amateur Chrome Cash

A total of 33 entries competed for $17,210 in the Intermediate Amateur Chrome Cash class; the top eight received payouts. Special congratulations to:

    • Champion: Marcos Chocron-Arocha & Poccahontas—$4,302
    • Reserve: Ken Schultz & Kit Kat Rey, a 2021 sorrel solid mare by Kit Kat Sugar (QH) x Reys Of Starlight—$3,442

 

  • Limited Amateur Chrome Cash

A total of eight entries competed for $4,450 in the Limited Amateur Chrome Cash class; the top three received payouts. Special congratulations to:
