Pink Buckle goes Chrome in 2023, thanks to PBRIP

Seventeen Paints took their shot at almost $5,000 in the inaugural Chrome Buckle Powered by PBRIP at the 2023 Pink Buckle Barrel Race, October 2-8 in Guthrie, Oklahoma. More than $4 million was paid out in full at the Pink Buckle this year.

Sissie Wherrell of Blanchard, Oklahoma, and Good As Bully Gets were the PBRIP Chrome Buckle 1D average champions with a 34.964. They also won the 2D Premier Pink Round 1. Altogether, they pocketed more than $14,000 from those two runs alone. Owned and bred by Sissie, Good As Bully Gets is a 2017 bay solid mare by As Good As Nick Gets and out of Dial Three Four Four (QH).

The 2D average champion was Karen Shock and Painted Up Design, who took home $874 with a 36.541. Owned and bred by Jamie and Karen Shock of Thorndale, Texas, Painted Up Design is a 2015 black tobiano stallion by Slick By Design (QH) and out of The Glory Of Summer.

All Chrome Buckle PBRIP entries received a leather nameplate halter, courtesy of State Line Tack. The PBRIP sidepot was a 4D payout, based on two runs combined on full-second splits.

“Incredibly, our APHA members can now run for even more money at the Pink Buckle just because they own a registered Paint,” Director of Racing & PBRIP Carly Peercy said. “Thank you to the Pink Buckle family for this opportunity. I’m excited to see what the future has in store. It’s definitely a great time to own a Paint Horse!”
