Why APHA Registration is Worth It for Your Paint Horse - APHA: American Paint Horse Association

About APHA Registration

APHA registration holds multiple benefits for your Paint Horse: it increases their value, preserves their lineage and makes them eligible for all kinds of APHA programs, recognition and awards. The cost of registration is minimal compared to the lifetime benefits it yields, and taking care of it early on in your foal’s life means less cost to you. Register or transfer your Paint Horse to give yourself and your horse full access to everything APHA offers.

Breed Standards

The American Paint Horse Association is a breed registry with a color preference. We value the beautiful white markings that set Paint Horses apart from the crowd, along with their stock-type conformation, disposition, athleticism and versatility. Both parents must be registered with APHA, AQHA or the Jockey Club. Horses with at least one APHA parent are always eligible for APHA registration, regardless of qualifying markings. A horse with only AQHA or Jockey Club parents must meet minimum APHA registration requirements based on white markings on their coats.

Paint Horses are classified into two registry categories: Regular Registry and Solid Paint-Bred. They are further classified by type, based on their white spotting patterns or genetics: overo, tobiano, tovero or solid.
