APHA Leadership

APHA Leadership

Several groups of leaders work alongside the staff to keep APHA moving in the right direction. These groups are the board of directors, state directors and advisory committees.

Board of Directors

The APHA Board of Directors is a dedicated group of individuals elected to set association policy. Candidates are identified by the Nominating & Leadership Development Committee and are voted into office by APHA State Directors. The board is responsible for planning the future of APHA with guidance from state directors and advisory committees, while also ensuring fiscal integrity.

State Directors

APHA State Directors are collectively tasked with deciding and directing association policy with collaboration from the Board of Directors. They are elected by the APHA membership to represent their home areas to ensure all areas have a voice in the direction of APHA.

The next election will take place in late 2025 for the 2026-2028 State Directors

Advisory Committees

APHA advisory committees help the association operate efficiently. These committees meet to discuss and advise on ways that APHA can continue to improve. They develop and recommend related courses of action to the Board of Directors and/or State Directors. Advisory committees are composed of passionate leaders that include state directors and general members. They are advisory only and all recommendations are reviewed and acted on by the Board of Directors.

If you are interested in serving on an advisory committee, reach out to the APHA president or committee staff liaison to express your interest.

The purpose of the Breed Integrity & Registration Advisory Committee is to review and make recommendations to the Board of Directors regarding actions to improve the quality, value and marketability of the American Paint Horses.

The purpose of the Competition Advisory Committee is to ensure that rules for APHA competition promote the growth of Paint Horses in competition across all disciplines among Amateurs, Youth and Open exhibitors.

The purpose of the International Committee is to create and/or increase awareness of the American Paint Horse, and to promote and advance the American Paint Horse in all international venues.

The purpose of the Judges Committee is to approve, disapprove, evaluate and provide continuing education for APHA judges.

The purpose of the Professional Horseman Committee is to enhance and promote the best interests of the APHA and to adhere to the association’s mission by ensuring the welfare, public confidence, education, cooperation, goodwill and resolution of those members whose occupation or primary source of income is directly related to the Paint Horse industry.

The purpose of the Racing Committee is to ensure that the rules and regulations for APHA racing promote the Paint Horse.

The purpose of the Regional Club Committee is to utilize, educate and stimulate regional clubs to facilitate association growth. It promotes and offers guidance to regional clubs for improvement with regard to membership, financial stability, leadership and volunteerism, while also initiating constant dialog between groups.

The purpose of the Rules Committee is to maintain the APHA Rule Book, which governs the conduct of the business of the American Paint Horse Association. The Rules Committee is responsible for the interpretation of all rules, by direction of the Board of Directors, if any question as to intent or ambiguity arises.
