AjPHA Virtual Youth Team Tournament

Welcome to the 2020 AjPHA Virtual Youth Team Tournament! AjPHA teams will film their performances based on the outlined criteria, submit their videos, and the judges will take it from there.

AjPHA Virtual Youth Team Tournament Rules & Regulations

Teams

  • Entry Fee: $150 Per Team
  • Team Size: 3-6 AjPHA Members (must be 18 years old or younger on January 1, 2020)
  • Team members do NOT have to be from the same barn, state, or country, but youth may only compete on one team. Youth needing assistance building a team or finding a team to join can post in the 2020 AjPHA Virtual Youth Team Tournament Facebook event page.
  • AjPHA Virtual Youth Team Tournament Events:
    1. Five (5) Performance Classes
    2. The Greatest Show Video
  • Teams must compete in at least three (3) performance classes and submit The Greatest Show Video.

Performance Classes

  • Each team may submit one entry in the following classes:
    • Youth 18 & Under Showmanship
    • Youth 18 & Under Hunt Seat Equitation
    • Youth 18 & Under Western Horsemanship
    • Youth 18 & Under Ranch Riding
    • Youth 5-10 Walk-Trot Pleasure (Western or English)
  • An exhibitor and/or horse can compete in a maximum of two classes, but a horse may only compete on one team.
  • Horses MUST be APHA-registered (either Regular Registry or SPB), but owners do not need to be APHA members and exhibitors do not need to own/lease the horses shown.
  • All equipment and attire must be legal, but silver and sequins will not count over a good working outfit. A Western hat or English helmet is required. Shirts must have collars and long sleeves.

The Greatest Show Video

  • The Greatest Show video is to challenge teams to work together and creatively by making a lip sync video to “The Greatest Show” from the movie The Greatest Showman.
  • All team members must participate in a portion of the video.
  • Videos must be appropriate and must use the “The Greatest Show” music. However, contestants are free to wear costumes, choreograph, and plan their videos as they wish within these guidelines.
  • Videos will be judged on their accuracy of words, creativity, and entertainment value.
  • Videos may be included in our next World Show lip sync video.
  • ONLY Team Members can be included in the video.

AjPHA Virtual Youth Team Tournament Point System

  • Performance Classes: There are up to 10 placings in each class. First place in each class receives 10 points, second receives 9 points and so on.
  • The Greatest Showman Video: Videos are judged on accuracy of words, creativity, and entertainment (10 points each). Points are awarded in the following manner:
    • 1st place- 30 points
      7th place-18 points
      2nd place- 28 points
      8th place- 16 points
      3rd place- 26 points
      9th place- 14 points
      4th place- 24 points
      10th place- 12 points
      5th place- 22 points
      11th place & below- 10 points
      6th place- 20 points

Overall winners are determined by the team that scored the most points in the performance classes and The Greatest Show Video
To break a Tied Score:

  1. The team placing in the greater number of events/classes.
  2. The team winning the greater number of events/classes, then the greater number of seconds.
  3. Team with the highest placing in Showmanship.

Awards

Performance Classes: Each performance class winner will receive a $100 PH Barn Door Gift Certificate
The Greatest Show Video: The first place team will receive $50 PH Barn Door Gift Certificates for each team member.

Overall Team Awards

  • 1st: Gist belt buckles and ribbons for each team member
  • 2nd: $50 PH Barn Door Gift Certificate and ribbons for each team member
  • 3rd-5th: Ribbons
