APHA Committee Chair & Vice-Chair Spotlight
APHA International Advisory Committee

Committee Chair – Helena Ryan
Helena is a proud Irish woman and still lives in Ireland. She was a late starter into the equine world, getting her first horse at 31, but immediately found the Western style of riding. After a few short years, Helena found her first Paint Horse and has not looked back. Helena is a CPA and the financial controller of PlantCert Ltd, a company she formed with her husband Martin 12 years ago. Helena is also an accredited mediator, an APHA show manager, and president of the UK Paint Horse Association. Having attended both the 2019 and 2020 Conventions in Fort Worth, Helena took over as chair of the International Advisory Committee in 2020 and also serves on the Equestrian Experience Committee and the PAC Task Force. Helena became PAC World E-Show Trail Champion in 2020 with her home-trained ADMS Tripple Loot. Helena is also a musician, a fan of 4x4s, American muscle cars, cruiser motorbikes and has recently begun clay pigeon shooting, but is adamant none of these will take over her passion for Paint Horses and the dream of competing in Europe, riding at the 2022 European Championships and continuing to serve APHA with a focus on international members.

Committee Vice-Chair – Peggy Cummings
Peggy Cummings’ lifelong interest in horses began in Northeastern Colorado, USA. Her first horse, named Stardusty, was a sorrel overo that she received on her 12th birthday. Their first belt buckle was for barrel racing at the 4-H show at the county fair. As Logan County Rodeo Queen, she led the parade down the streets of her hometown and participated in the Cheyenne Frontier Days Parade. Peggy trained as a professional librarian and researcher in her other life and is president of Literary Research Company, LLC which keeps her active in the industry. Today, in conjunction with her husband Wendell, she owns and operates Paynter’s Paint Ranch, home of stallions, Diablos Painted Doc and Valentines Hickory, as well as many other APHA and NRCHA Championship paint horses. Being vice-chair of the APHA International Committee is a fun and rewarding experience for her.
