If you don’t already have a room and you need one call 1-800-228-9290 and ask for the DFW Marriott Airport North. The deadline was February 8.  You may be able to still get a room but at a higher rate than the APHA block.

  • “Welcome to the Stockyards” Breakfast, March 3, 8:00 a.m., enjoy complimentary breakfast and hear and see more about APHA’s upcoming and very exciting move!
  • “Marked for Greatness” Strategic PlanningMarch 3, 9:00 a.m., presented by Colin Rorrie, Jr., PhD, FASAE, CAE, President CCR & Associates.  Colin will break down APHA strategic plan for everyone to understand and give members a chance to be involved in APHA’s continued success.
  • “Marked for Greatness” horseIQ LiveMarch 3, 11:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Be sure to register for lunch that will be served during the presentation. Hear from APHA Director of Judges David Dellin and APHA Judge Sandy Jirkovsky on Western Pleasure and Ranch Riding. Don’t miss this one!
  • “Marked for Greatness” Equine Law for Horsemen – March 4, 1:00 p.m. presented by APHA legal counsel Suzanne Radcliff. Hear from the expert as Suzanne gives everyone tips and the law regarding the potential needs of our horsemen and horsewomen.
  • “Marked for Greatness” Genetics Presentation March 4, 2:00 p.m., presented by Samantha A. Brooks, PhD, University of Florida. “The quality and pattern of a foal is only determined by the DNA passed to that foal from the dam and the sire,” Samantha said. “By examining the DNA directly, breeders will be able to accurately gauge the value of their breeding stock. Genetic tools give breeders the power to optimize their breeding plans in order to maximize color and quality, leading to better profitability in the end.” Samantha’s has updated the data she’s previously presented at the annual APHA Convention and will explain how it will provide a roadmap to future analysis. Be sure to catch Samantha’s presentation at the on March 4.

The Fun Stuff

  • Welcome ReceptionFriday, March 2, 6:30 p.m. Generously hosted by Illinois PHA, Markel Insurance and APHA, this event is free for all Convention attendees. Gather with other APHA members and snack on delicious selections.
  • Hall of Fame & Awards BanquetSunday, March 4, 5:30 p.m. Enjoy an hour of socializing before the Hall of Fame dinner begins. At 6:30 p.m. join APHA as we honor our sixth class of Hall of Fame inductees, along with other special award winners. Seating is limited for this popular party and it sells out early, so make your reservations soon. Dinner is included, and a cash bar is available. Order your tickets below.

Tending to Business

  • Check out the state of affairs. APHA Executive Director Billy Smith kicks off Convention with the state of affairs for the American Paint Horse Association. He’ll give those in attendance an overview of show, registration and market share statistics that make up the day-to-day activities at APHA. Learn from him plans for the future of APHA.
  • Make your voice heard at committee meetings. All Convention attendees are invited to attend almost any committee meetings and share your thoughts. Committees meet on Friday, March 2 and Saturday, March 3. You’ll certainly find something you’re passionate about—make your voice heard!
  • Attend the Board of Directors sessions. APHA’s elected Board of Directors meet March 4th to discuss rule change proposals for 2019, and then vote on them March 5th. While only directors can vote on the rule change proposals, any APHA member may attend the meeting. Whether you’re deeply invested in the Paint Horse industry or just getting started, attending the APHA Convention is time well spent. Network with your peers, meet APHA leaders and get energized about improving yourself, your club and your impact on the association. Register today!
