Fast Times

CL Trap Queen posts the fastest time in the 2016 G1 Oklahoma Paint & Appaloosa Futurity at Remington Park.

Remington Park opened the 2016 season on a cool night March 11 with light rain falling intermittently throughout the program at the Oklahoma City racetrack. Half of the 12-race card was devoted to qualifying trials for the Oklahoma Paint & Appaloosa Futurity, with CL Trap Queen posting the best time of the night.

Owned by Wade and Charles Leggett of Muskogee, Oklahoma, and trained by Dee Keener, CL Trap Queen won her trial, the second of six, covering 300 yards in :15.828 seconds over a fast track. Jockey Ivan Carnero had the call. Bred in Oklahoma by Charles, the 2-year-old sorrel solid filly won by a half-length over DTL Josie Wales with DTL Fast Flyin Tex third. The trio all made the final field for March 26; all are trained by Keener.

A daughter by Royal Quick Flash from the Texas Hero mare Texas Showboat, CL Trap Queen was 10-1 in the wagering and paid $23 to win in her career debut.

The rest of the field of nine for the Grade 1 Oklahoma Paint & Appaloosa Futurity, were all Paint Horses; only two Appaloosas competed in the trials. Joining CL Trap Queen will be:

Paint Me Turnpike (trial 6), :15.835
Ho Lotta Love (trial 1), :15.868
Sexy Painted Wagon (trial 1), :15.870
CRM Radio Flyer (trial 5), :15.891
DTL Josie Wales (trial 2), :15.896
BP Apollitical Sun (trial 1), :15.911
DTL Fast Flyin Tex (trial 2), :15.925
PHQ Goodbye Earl (trial 5), :15.931
KC Texas Lady (trial 5), :15.948

Keener dominated the trials, training six of the 10 qualifiers who will fill the gate in the final. In addition to CL Trap Queen, Sexy Painted Wagon, DTL Josie Wales, DTL Fast Flyin Tex, PHQ Goodbye Earl and KC Texas Lady will all represent the Keener barn.
