5 events earmarked for 2018 APHA reining buckle incentive program

Reiners who prefer their rides to have some extra chrome get the chance to take home some extra hardware at select events—APHA’s popular reining buckle incentive program is back for 2018, earmarked for five select National Reining Horse Association events across the United States.

Beautiful custom Gist Silversmith trophy buckles will be awarded to the highest-placing Paint Horses in select classes at the following events:

  • National Reining Breeders Classic in Katy, Texas – April 2018
  • Carolina Reining Classic in Tryon, North Carolina – May 2018
  • Rocky Mountain Summer Slide in Denver, Colorado – July 2018
  • Low Roller Reining Classic in Nampa, Idaho – October 2018
  • Southwest Reining Horse Futurity in Ardmore, Oklahoma – October 2018

Classes have been selected by APHA and will vary from show to show, but they’ll include Open and Non-Pro aged events as well as ancillary classes like Non-Pro, Green Reiner, Rookie and/or Youth in an effort to reach a wide variety of competitors.

To be eligible for the buckles, the exhibitor must be a current APHA member and the horse must be registered with APHA (or have registration paperwork submitted onsite). Participants must sign up for the incentive program with on-site APHA representatives by 5 p.m. the day before the event’s first-go begins. APHA staff will be at the events to assist you with participation and to help you get your APHA membership, registration and transfer paperwork submitted. To sign up, simply locate the onsite APHA representative and fill out an entry form—ask the event’s show office for more details.

For aged events, the award will go to the highest-scoring Paint Horse from the finals, beginning with the highest level. For ancillary classes, the Paint Horse must be shown in both days of the ancillary classes, and scores will be added together to determine the award winner.

These events are part of a select group of NRHA shows approved for 2018 APHA World Show qualification, too!  The 2018 World Show features more than $40,000 added money for reiners in leveled challenge classes (no qualifying required) in addition to world championship events—the World Show takes place September 17–30 in Fort Worth, Texas.

Do you have a horse that’s eligible for APHA registration? Let’s take care of getting your paperwork up-to-date before the event—you can email most registration work to [email protected] or mail transfers of ownership to APHA MemberCare, PO Box 961023, Fort Worth, TX 76161.
